One afternoon I trampled on a mole that was burrowing just beneath the surface in my vegetable patch. It squeaked (and escaped unhurt) and I was shocked by what I had nearly done. The plot of this novel came to me complete in that instant and I started writing it that same night.
It is a whimsical tale about moles fighting for their homes but it has a powerful message to young people: Stand up for what you believe; never give in on matters of principle; you are never too young to make a stand.
